Reason of Visit: Problem with My Toshiba Laptop

Experience: Extremely Bad (Lasting Over 4 Days and Unnecessary Expenditure on travel)

Story: My laptop had stopped working about two weeks back. The problem was not very clear. My windows had crashed and the recovery CD will not work.

Before Going to the Company guys… 

I had shown it to a couple of couple of guys and they checked for usual suspects. Hard Drive seemed to be working. ROM & RAM were ok.

Then one of the Guys installed Ubuntu (Linux) for some sort of an overwrite.

It did not work so I decided to take it to the company service centre at the fag end of town.

I reach there and find a couple of lazy ass employees bumming around and more than a couple of customers waiting around.

There was no signage or anyone at the reception desk.

Finally, one guy comes and I ask him to take a look. He sees and looks as if he has chanced upon the biggest invention of his times.. A Laptop.. He looks puzzled and excited at the same time. He then asks a supposedly senior lookin guy to come and take a look.

That guy does the same sort of things with the laptop.. only with a lesses degree of surprise.

Finally, he heaves a long sigh and says.. “I don’t know what the problem is.. we will jhave to keep it for two days”

To which I ask “Why two days and not one or three” and I am given some Mumbo-Jumbo about Diagnostics and Company Policy.

So, I agree and leav e the laptop on the condition that This ver guy will give me a call tomorrow at 11 am and tell me the status.

Next day, I do not get a call till 4.  I call them at 4 and a rude woman picks up the call and casually says that the guy is out on a call. She goes on to say ( In a patronising Tone) “That SHE will call me and I NEED not call.”

The same routine carries for three more days, and I am not given a clue about the progress.

Finaaly, I get a call saying My Motherboard needs to be replaced and it will cost 25000 and take three weeks.

Now, I am not bill gates but I KNOW my laptop does not have a motherboard problem.

I go and pick up my laptop and vow to never buy a Toshiba Again..

Now Toshiba loses a future customer. Not because they make bad things but they employ morons.

HCL better learn some manners and technology.

  2. brother i m facing a far more worse problem then you….
    i bought a hcl vigour core 2 duo laptop on march 2008,at the end of april i got a small prob,sometime after pulling out the plug of external speakers the internal speakers were not working .so i took it to the hcl service center pune . the eyes of those service man were suggesing as if the laptop is from some kind of alian spaceship or something(they didn’t even know the name of the model)…. they took it for repairing and told me that they will give it back after 3 days..
    i called after three days and the lady of the centre(aparna) casually told me that parts are not available and told me to come next week… but after 2 weeks of struggle i finally got my laptop..they told me that first they changed the speaker(although i had told them that the problem is with the socket,not the speaker..but they are experts…… and then they had changed my motherboard…..when i recieved the laptop i saw the body is loosly fitted,the touchpad is making hollow sound and and the body over touchpad has an outward projection….. i asked them to properly fit the things and they took 2 hours more to fix that (that was also not fixed properly)…………….
    but carry on reders…its just the beginning of my torments…….when i checked my specifications and vollaaaa………………………………………they had CHANGED MY PROCESSOR FROM CORE2 DUO TO DUEL CORE(MUCH LOWER GHZ).. and the motherboard was off course changed…. …………………. whwn i shouted at them they told it is not possibe….and u had a duel core only…. i bring them all the specification proof…….then miss aparna took me in a corner and told me that they have made a mistake unwillingly…..I TOLD THEM THATS A KIND OF CHEATING THEY ARE DOING… but she was smiling all the time…. at last she told me that she will change it within three days……AND U KNO WHEN THEY FINALLY CHANGED IT……AFTER 2 AND HALF MONTH….. AT THAT TIME IWAS IN BANGALORE SO THEY PERCELLED IT TO BANGALORE SERVICE CENTER…..

    NOT OVER ,NOT OVER………. READ ON GUYS……

    when it came to bangalore service centre it was having my actual motherboard and processor but……..THE BATTERY WAS GONE NOW…it was not taking charge…….

    AFTER 3 WEEKS…….I FINALLY GOT AN REPLACED BATTERY…..BUT AT THAT TIME MY CHARGER IS GONE…….SO TODAY AFTER 1 WEEK (THANKS TO BANGALORE SERVICE CENTRES QUICK SERVICE)I M GOING TO TAKE THE CHARGER……..
    THATS A THREE MONTH’S LONG STORY…………………
    PLEASE LEAVE A REPLY IF U R FEELING SAME PAIN LIKE ME…HCL HAS RAPED MY LAPTOP AND EVEN DID AN ABORTION AFTER THAT…..

    THROUGH IT IN THE GURBAGE………

  4. I am now facing the same problem. But i am in the initial fase of it. thanks god i read your comments. I just called them on the numbers provided on the toshiba india site. They are not available. One person available gave me two new numbers and now they are not reachable and when i try to call the person who gave me these numbers, he is not picking up the call. hehehehe!!!!

    One thing is sure i will never buy and will try to convince people not to buy one.

    Anyways has your problem been solved yet?
